Set the Foundation
Review your ID card and Flex Card (if included in your plan). Check your personal info and physician name. Call us with corrections.
Choose or change your primary care physician (PCP) online if needed. PPO members: let Essence know your PCP's name if you haven't already.
If your plan has a monthly premium or late-enrollment penalty, there are several convenient ways to pay.
This helps us and your provider offer the care that's best suited to you.
Make sure they're on our formulary so there are no surprises at the pharmacy.
Settle In
Talk to your PCP about your health goals and preventive care for the year.
Get medications delivered with mail order, or pick up at a preferred retail pharmacy.
Getting care from an out-of-network provider? You may be able to continue that care while transitioning in-network. See the Transition of Services form or call us to learn more.
Stay Connected
Join virtual meetings or in-person events to learn more about your plan and benefits.

Download your New Member Guide to get up to speed on your Essence plan—from benefits and using your Member Portal, to billing, seeing your primary care physician, and more.
You’ll need to log in to your Member Portal and click “Resources” and then “Plan Documents” near the top of the page. From there, you can search for your New Member Guide.
